Over 1000 documentaries register for DOCUSUR
The first edition of the International Festival of Documentary Cinema of the South (DOCUSUR), which will take place from 22nd to 29th October at Guía de Isora, has closed its call for competing films with the record total in Spain of 1105 films registered from 83 countries on all five continents.
In this way, DOCUSUR is confirmed as the festival with the greatest number of participating documentaries and with the greatest international acceptance anywhere in Spain.
The organisation has defined this first call as the "most successful and international in the country, as never before has a documentary film festival had such international acceptance which is expressed both in the great number of documentaries registered and in the number of countries". It is a success as a result of the volume of proposals received and it is international thanks to their origins from locations on all five continents. Such Asiatic countries as Japan, Indonesia, China, Vietnam, Korea and India, African ones like  Madagascar, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, the Congo, South Africa and Chad, American ones such as the United States, Canada,  Cuba, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina and Mexico, as well as a representation from Oceania in the hands of work from Australia, and from Europe with the registration of work from practically all the countries on the continent.
According to the director of DOCUSUR, Juan Manuel Villar "this volume of documentaries registered will enable us to make a better selection although, on the other hand, the selection committee will not have an easy job, given the high quality of the work presented". A selection committee made up of outstanding professionals of documentary making will decide over the next few weeks which fifty documentaries will go through to the competition phase of the Festival and the Screenings of DOCUSUR MARKET, the first documentary market devoted to productions and shoots carried out in the countries of the South.
"The great international impact - adds the director of DOCUSUR - that the Festival has had is due, mainly, to the work we carried out beforehand building up over the course of the last two years an extensive database with over 7,000 international contacts. It was painstaking and tedious work but which has finally borne fruit. On the other hand, the documentary is becoming more and more important in the world and emerging film-makers are looking for ways, such as this very versatile system, to express their different points of view".
And the fact is that DOCUSUR aims to bring together in the final week of October the different views of the entire planet.

Sogecable group gives support to Docusur
Sogecable, first Spanish private TV network and third in Europe, leader company in the Spanish movie market with its film production group Sogecine, is now the main partner of DOCUSUR.
