BUCHAREST, MEMORY LOST

Albert Solé / 80´ / 2008 / Spain / Betacam SP
 "Bucarest, la memoria perdida" tells of the personal search made by Albert (a journalist born in exile in 1962) to recover his own roots, which are set in a double exile. His father, the Spanish politician, Jordi Solé Tura, who would become a key figure in the Spanish Transition, was obliged to go into exile due to his anti-Franco militancy in the late 1950s. Now, after a life full of fantastic political and personal experiences, Jordi has begun a new internal exile, this time without the possibility of return: a fight against Alzheimer.
His  memory is being lost day by day. This documentary aims to recover the memories of a number of atypical lives, in which historical characters such as Santiago Carrillo, Jorge Semprún, Manuel Fraga and Jordi Pujol are involved, with little-known episodes of the fight against Franco and the Cold War.

LT22 RADIO LA COLIFATA

Buenos Aires, Argentina. From the gardens of the J.T. Borda Psychiatric Hospital comes the broadcast of "LT22 Radio La Colifata". A radio station which is wholly created by the inmates of the Hospital. A radio space in which a hearing is given to those who have been denied it for too long: "the mad". The central characters, the "colifatos", show us the operation of this radio which broadcasts to the world. We feel that the radio acquires new functions, breaks down the walls that separate the mentally ill from society, serving as an effective therapy for the patients. We accompany the "colifatos" on their journey round Europe, where they can see the distant effects of their pioneering project: other psychiatric hospitals have taken up their idea and have created their own radio stations.

"There are days when I think I'm just scum. Days when I can't face the world." (Rob Troman) Rob is 23 years old and recently served with British forces in Iraq. He saw and did things that have profoundly affected him. He has nightmares and fl ashbacks, he drinks heavily to try and forget what he did in Basra. Rob suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). So does 78-year-old Cliff who fought in the British army in Malaya in 1951. Even though it was 50 years ago, every night he relives in his mind the incident when his comrades were slaughtered. Eddie served with UN peacekeeping forces in Bosnia and has made multiple suicide attempts.The Not Dead tells the stories of these three men.

Internationally renowned as a photographer, Dilip Mehta was working as the production designer on Water, his sister's Oscar-nominated feature about widows in 1930s India, when he learned that 40 million women lived in the same conditions today. Appalled, he felt compelled to make this powerful documentary that testifies to the contemporary realities behind the historical fiction. The film opens in the ancient temple city of Vrindavan with striking images of thousands of widows living in poverty. It then travels to rural villages to hear from women beginning to organize for their rights and to New Delhi to listen to war widows.

José Raimundo Cavalcante, known as Zé Sozinho, leaves home at 12 towards Fortaleza, where begins his love for movies, sweeping the exhibition room to watch movies for free. Later doing other services for meals. This was his fi rst job. Back to Caririaçu, after some
years, he starts to exhibit movies in the Círculo Operário, using a 16 mm projector which belongs to the institution. In 1970, with his own projector, goes through different cities of the Northeast country, exhibiting in improvised rooms like garages, warehouses, etc. This activity would last for over 50 years.

Salim Muhammad is a 55-year-old man who lives in North Kolkata with his wife and five children. Since the age of ten he has made a living screening discarded film scraps for the kids in his surrounding neighborhoods using a hand-cranked projector that he inherited from his father. A pragmatic businessman as well as a cinephile, Salim runs his projector with his sons in the hopes that they will carry on his legacy of showing films to the local children.
