ÁCRATAS
Virginia Martínez / 73´ / 2000 / Uruguay / Betacam SP
Ácratas narrates the life-story of Miguel Arcángel Roscigno, classified as the most intelligent of the action anarchists, who fought in the River Plate during the 1920s and 1930s. In those convulsive years, there were different violently-opposed tendencies in anarchism.
The methods of struggle and more exactly, the matter of expropriations, divided the movement. There were those who thought that having recourse to crime to finance the actions of the movement discredited the fight for liberty. On the other hand, the "anarquistas expropiadores", as they called themselves were of the opinion that "for as long as we have known that property is theft, the only thieves are land-owners". Roscigno -an "anarquista expropiador"- was a genuine legend in the River Plate. Miguel Arcángel Roscigno was also the companion of José Buenaventura Durruti in Buenos Aires and took
part together with him in a number of raids in the capital.

AT FIVE O'CLOCK EXACTLY
José Pedro Charlo / 56´ / 2005 / Uruguay / Betacam SP
On 27th June, 1973, the coup d'état took place in Uruguay. The workers and students repudiated it with a general strike of fifteen days, occupying their places of work and schools. This was the largest ever massive and peaceful mobilisation against authoritarianism in Latin America. The documentary shows this action through a double story: that of the direct characters in the mobilization and that of those who recorded it on film.

APARTE
Mario Handler / 91´/ 2002 / Uruguay / Betacam SP
Aparte is the simple portrait of a group of young inhabitants of the shanty towns o Montevideo, (whom we generally see in the crime pages of the newspaper), filmed by Mario Handler in their ordinary daily lives, with their children, their families, their friends, having fun or being sad. Very objectively, this film breaks with the criteria of Latin American documentary cinema. The author becomes in some way a part of that which is documented, sections of the film were made by the people being filmed themselves; this is not a report whith people who say things to the camera, each action is inconclusive generating a sensation of frustration; the frontiers between the film-maker and the real human beings who are in the images are removed. Those beings (the underprivileged) are part of Uruguayan culture.

HIT
Claudia Bend, Adriana Loeff / 82´/ 2007 / Uruguay / Betacam SP
Hit tells the story of Uruguayan songs that made history. In a story that covers fifty years, the film runs through landmarks in music and of the life of a country which touch on the hearts of those who experienced it - and of those who did not. With the intention of going far beyond mere anecdotes, the film reveals how those songs were made into symbols and survived the passage of time. Together with memories and the confessions of some of the most important figures in national music, Hit brings to our memories the stories of songs that we all know, which move all of us and which, in some cases, helped to change history.

TRUE WORDS
Ricardo Casas / 54´ / 2004 / Uruguay / Betacam SP
The famous Uruguayan writer, Eduardo Galeano, supplied with his book of the same title -the third part of the trilogy, Memorias del Fuego, which Ronald thrist classified in the New York Times as a "sort of Bible"-, the basis of the picture directed by Birri. For Fernando Birri, an Argentine settled alternately in Rome and Santa Fe (Argentina), directing this film was a dream come true.
This ambitious production was carried out thanks to a high-level international association, prepared for a number of years and coordinated by the Uruguayan, Yvonne Ruocco, with her German-based production company, SURFilms. Among the shareholders are the European cultural channel, ARTE, Cine-Ojo from Argentina, Cinemateca Uruguaya, CREA Audiovision from Germany and Televisión Española (TVE). This film offers a new vision of American history in the course of this century.
The offi cial history, in Birri's view, is a wardrobe in which the powerful keep their old disguises, but the real history is, on the other hand, the living memory that can be breathed in the streets and the fields.
