Sideways Film

Sideways Film is a documentary and factual sales agency established in 2010 that specialises in worldwide Broadcast, All Rights, Digital, Educational and in-flight licensing. We work closely with our filmmakers to ensure that every title offers a unique perspective and gets the attention it deserves. We prioritize documentaries that focuses on a global topic, it does not matter that the story starts from a local perspective, with a strong access and we also appreciate when the documentary carries an deep investigation revealing new information or making audiences approach a subject from a fresh perspective. We also look for strong character driven stories or innovative science documentaries.

 

Our films do not get lost in our catalogue as we take on a very limited number of new titles – a maximum of fifteen per year – which also enables us to spot opportunities tailored to each film. We attend at least eighteen markets and festivals across every continent each year, and in our experience this is crucial to our success.

 

We are now taking on a very limited number of projects as production partners and in this capacity we are involved both editorially and in closing the budget through match-making co-productions, pre-sales and film funds, and building the best possible team around your film.

Juan has been working in documentary distribution and production for over seven years and he is part of the Sideways Film team for the past three years. He has represented Sundance Films like Private Violence or Cobain: Montage of Heck or the latest documentary by Werner Herzog Nomad: In the Footsteps of Bruce Chatwin. In the production side, he produced and directed an award-winning documentary on e-waste called Blame Game which sold to over ten broadcasters/platforms internationally.
