Presentation
CINEMATECA SUR is the space devoted to the documentary production of the countries of the south. The festival selects, in each edition, three countries from three continents - Africa, Asia and Latin America - with the objective of making the peoples of the south visible through their films.
The Canary Islands, a natural bridge between Europe, Africa and America represent a geographical and cultural meeting point between three continents, thus constituting a space for the confluence of two universes: the world of the north and the world of the south. Guía de Isora, in the south of the Island of Tenerife, thus becomes the ideal space in which to bring together the multiple views of this planet.
Since the first edition, MiradasDoc has worked to open up a window onto the emerging cinematography of certain countries, whose documentary works are on the margins of the circuits which are generally within our reach. For this purpose, the festival has attempted, since the first edition, to make known in depth the documentary production of Latin America, from the classics to contemporary cinema. MiradasDoc has also directed its attention to those geographical areas whose production is on the periphery, thus being invisible for a globalised world where a country without an image does not exist. This is the reason for our vocation of making these films visible through the views of their documentary filmmakers.
