Thirteen years after leaving Cuba, I went back to where I grew up. My parents’ family is there. The ones who remain. During my years of absence many of them have emigrated. My grandmother Marina has just turned 85 – a month before Fidel Castro, the leader she so admires. Now she lives with three of her children and two grandchildren

HALIAM PÉREZ FERNÁNDEZ (Havana, 1982) graduated in Fine Arts from the University of Barcelona and Master in Creative Documentary Pompeu Fabra University. His directorial debut came with Rosa (2010, 25 ‘). With Rubén Pato and Bottos Margalló created the Collective Rucs, the group that led Nouvinguts (2011, 25) and edited Marcel • li l’Horta (2011, 29’). He was assistant director on Bajarí (2012, 90 ‘) of Eva Vila, director of photography on The quiet earth (2013, 72‘) of Ruben Margalló, documentary selected among others at the Cinema du Réel festival. Recently he has been assistant director at The Academy of the Muses (2015, 92 ‘) of José Luis Guerin, premiered in Locarno. His first feature film is Marina.
