Trying to regain the love of the woman who abandoned him, Yono (Mbah Jhiwo), a Kawa Ijen’s sulfur miner, transits through the different beliefs that coexist in the neocolonial reality of the South Seas.
ALVARO GURREA (Barcelona, 1988) has been living since 2014 between Spain and Indonesia, where he develops film projects with a rural community in East Java. He has a Master in Creative Documentary by the UPF and frequently collaborates with Swab Barcelona Art Fair in its video and photography programmes. In 2016 he presented the short film Crossboundaries at Arts Santa Monica and in 2021 Mbah Jhiwo at the Berlinale Film Festival.
