CARMELA AND THE WALKERS

Carmela risks everything to help thousands of Venezuelans walking across South America in the largest exodus in the region’s recent history. Her mission is endangered by the sudden incarceration of her husband.

Esteban Coloma and Luis Herrera R. have worked together for the past three years as co-directors on short films about indigenous communities and underrepresented groups. These include: the series “Caminantes, vidas que importan” (2021), “WAWAMAMA” (Fondo Nacional de Producción y Postproducción 2020), “MAMA” (winner of Arica Nativa category Jallalla shorts 2019). They are also developing the feature film “Del Páramo” in co-production with Desfase Films from Peru (IBERMEDIA Co-Development Fund 2021). Carmela y los caminantes is their debut feature film.
