A distant no man’s land. A dry and dusty area between the train tracks and the highway. A few bonfires are blazing. Groups of people gathered here and there. The situation gradually starts becoming clear. They are part of the caravan that is making its way towards the United States. Mute images and fragments of excited conversations calmly draw the viewer’s attention to a microcosm of personal destinations within a context of global events. What at first seemed to abstract and distant suddenly becomes immediate and alive.

DANILO DO CARMO (Brazil, 1989). Studied Film and Editing at the University of São Paulo and at the Konrad Wolf Film University of Berlin. He first worked in film as director of photography for other filmmakers, especially MENINO PASSARO (Diogo Leite, 2018), best short in the Rio de Janeiro Short Cinema Festival. LA ESPERA, his directing debut together with Jakob Krese, had its world premiere at the Rotterdam Festival, later being awarded first prize at the Hamburg International Short Film Festival.
