Barbara (67) has suffered from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis since aged five and is bedridden. Once a year, when her husband goes on holiday, looking after her is her daughter, Martyna (36), who cooks, feeds, washes, and cares for her mother. Due to the loss of muscle control, Barbara can only communicate by moving her eyes. She looks to the left for “yes”, and to the right for “no”. Letter after letter, Martyna makes out words, sentences, and meanings. Despite both being acutely aware of her destiny, they manage to find fleeting moments of happiness that resound like echoes of images of their old homemade videos.

MARTYNA PESZKO (Krakow, Poland, 1977). She graduated from the National Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow and held the DOK Pro workshop at the Wajda School.
