An all-black cast reenacts legislative assemblies during the Brazilian Imperial period that determined the basis for structural racism and the illusion of racial democracy. During the production of the scenes, the director immerses herself in the intimate process of reclaiming her black identity.

Graduated in film script at the New York Film Academy, Mariana made her film debut as a director in 2010, with the documentary A B Ser. The project was a winner, among 115 entries of Filma Brasil contest. Recently, she wrote and directed the short fiction Baobab’s Bark (12 min). The project was sponsored by Brazilian Ministry of Culture and screened in more than 50 film festivals around the world.
