From a place far from home, Lara is driven by enigmatic dreams to fulfill a spiritual birth ritual that will take her along with her dead aunt back to Africa.

LARA SOUSA. Director and producer, founder of Kulunga Filmes, a company that produces emerging filmmakers from Portuguese-speaking African countries. Her short films have won several awards. She currently produces her documentary The Ship and the Sea, that won the Idfa Bertha Fund Award at the Durban Film Market 2020 and was funded by Sundance Documentary Programme 2021. Her VR project The Call of the Sea was selected to Sheffield Arts Market 2021. Sousa works as training coordinator for the MiradasDoc Market. Sundance and HotDocs grantee, Sousa is a fellow of Digital Lab Africa.
