ACROSS THE TROPICS

A land surveyor monitors the risks of landslides along the roads in Ubatuba, at the coastline of São Paulo. On his way, he is faced with conflicts over land occupation, while, through his theodolite, he sees images from the past.

Francisco Miguez. Francisco Miguez is a film director, editor and researcher from São Paulo. Together with Quina filmes, he produced films in different formats. He directed the short films Ronda (Patrol, 2019, written and directed with Mauricio Battistuci) the documentary Uma Invenção sem futuro (An Invention Without a Future, 2021). He also directed the screen dance Dobras (Folds, 2018, directed with Pedro Nishi); and Todos Pontos da Curva (Every point in a Curve, 2019). In 2015, he exhibited the video installation on two channels, Ciclo do sono (Go to Sleep). In 2021, he participated in the RAW – Arché-Work residency, at the DocLisboa and Márgenes festivals in Madrid, researching experimental uses of interviews in films. He was a writer for Revista Cinética between 2018 and 2022.
